R-Group Legal is a solo legal practice operated by David Wood, PhD, LLB. David is a lawyer licensed in the Province of Alberta and a registered Canadian Patent Agent.
With a PhD in structural biochemistry, David has an understanding of the context that innovative operators working in psychedelics and cannabis are facing. Over a decade of experience practicing from a major national Canadian law firm, including four years of co-chairing the firm’s Psychedelics and Cannabis Focus Group, has provided David with valuable experience advising a wide variety of operators in the psychedelics space and the cannabis industry on intellectual property, regulatory and commercial strategies.

Over twenty-five years of studying the chemistry and biochemistry of action of psychedelics, including formal education. Over five years of focus on the supply chain for regulated cannabis in Canada. Many lessons have been learned in Canada’s federally regulated cannabis industry. Psychedelics present a complex interplay of chemistry, botany, regulatory landscape and intellectual property considerations - all with a powerful undercurrent of human rights relating to health, wellness and cognitive liberty. Commercialization of drug products in the psychedelics ecosystem presents particular challenges as a result of this interplay.
